Daily Reading:
John 17-21
1.) Facts:
- Jesus gathers with the disciples and prays for Himself that He would be glorified. He also prayed for the disciples and for the world. His prayer was not that the Father would take the disciples out of the world, but that He would protect them from the evil one. Jesus was betrayed and arrested and put on trial before Pilate. He was sentenced to be crucified. Jesus was crucified and laid in a tomb. After 3 days He was raised from the dead and appeared before the disciples.
2.) Lessons:
- 17:15 - My prayer is not that You take them out of the world, but that You protect them from the evil one.
- 17:17 - Sanctify them by the truth, Your word is truth. (Bible = truth, inerrant)
- 17:24 - Father, I want those You have given me to be with me where I am, and to see My glory, the glory You have given Me because You loved me before the creation of the world.
- 18:5 - "I am he." Christ was simple, direct and humble in his answer, He had accepted the cup the Father had given Him.
- 18:37 - You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone of the side of truth listens to me.
- 19:11 - You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above.
- 19:17 - "He carried His own cross." He was the only man who was fully capable of carrying the full burden of the sin of the world.
- 20:22-23 - Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.
- 20:29 - Because you have seen me, you have believed, blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.
- Christ prayed for us as believers. He wants us to see His glory. Christ died on the cross for the sins of the world and defeated death so that we might live for eternity with Him. Not once did Christ turn from the cup that God the Father had laid before Him. He accepted His responsibility with humility and carried it out, dying through crucifixion for my sins. He is a King and yet carried the cross for me because the burden of sin is too much for me to bear.
4.) Daily Meditation:
- 20:29 - Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.
